Tom Goudie won the handicap with a net 73, a better inward half over Kevin Coffin with the same score.
PITLOCHRY MATCH

You’ve done us proud- Ross Nicholson, Paul Hogan, Lee West, Alan Madden, Mike Stewart, Gary Cavanagh, John Ogilvie, Douglas Ogilvie, Gary Barber, Ian Yeaman, Gordon Murray and Adam Laidlaw
STATION MASTERS
We achieved a memorable draw against a strong StationMasters team last Sunday. The first 3 groups were unlucky in their games, each losing by just 1, then a great come back from the last 3 teams with 5/4, 5/4, and 3/2 victories.
MEDAL SUCCESS
Mike Stewart came in with a remarkable nett 65 on The Championship last Friday, to take the Sept medal.
JUNIOR COMPETITIONS
Congratulations to Adam Laidlaw, our 2024 Junior Champion. Winning 3/2 against Carl Hutchinson.
This was followed by another win for Adam in The Alex Oetegenn Cup a week later. Narrowly beating Carl once more, but it went to a count back after both players finished with a nett 74.

The CMGC guys winning by a single shot over the Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club.

It was another solid performance from Pete, ably assisted by dad Tom on the bag. Friend and neighbour Graeme McEwing fought well throughout, but it was just not to be his day.
CONSOLATION CUP
Well done to Kevin Coffin!
The first winner of the reinstated Ben Gordon Trophy.
A tight match against good mate, Mike Stewart went all the way to the 18th.
Yule Cup
Another solid round from the Ogilvie brothers who battled a typically blustery day on The Burnside, to win The Yule Cup for the second year in a row. The senior member of ‘team Og’ almost had to call it a day on the 2nd hole, when he tweaked a recent injury. Doug saved the day however and carried his partner over the next few holes (or was that 16 holes Doug?), while he recovered.
Tom & David Goudie came in a close second, while Colin & Scott Yule were a notable third from a field of eight teams.
June Medals
Playing conditions have not been too favourable for our June Medal weekends. So well done to Kevin Coffin, posting net scores of 67 and 69 over The Burnside and Buddon and Bob Thomson for a net 76 on The Championship. The latter due mostly to his ball finding skills.
Consolation Cup
We now have the finalists for this newly introduced cup and it promises to be a good one! Playing partners Mike Stewart and Kevin Coffin will contest the cup and lay claim to bragging rights on The Burnside, Saturday, July 6th at 11.52am.

Senior Championship
Clear skies and a light breeze (for Carnoustie) met the competitors on Saturday for the clubs first senior competition in many a year. Eleven over 60’s contested for The Sturrock Troup Trophy on The Burnside.
It was tight at the top, but the wily Don Downie managed to amass one stableford point more than Tom Goudie to take the honours. Willie Boyle came a close third.
D Downie 33pts
T Goudie 32pts
W Boyle 31pts
Club Matches
Sadly, we failed to continue our winning home run in the recent Pitlochry match. An unbelievable performance from the visitors gave them a 5½-½ victory.
We won’t have to look for our challenges in the return game in September, so keep Sunday September 22nd free if you are up for volunteering!
Likewise, we play The Stationmasters the week before on Sunday 15th September, so look out for Doug’s invite to play around end of August.
Yule Cup
Entry to this competition has now closed. After a few cancelations due to course damage, this event will finally be played on June 29 and is sure to be closely contested, with a large number taking part this year.

If you’d like to join the groups, apply here.
Boards Restored
The remnants of our Club Champions and Club Captains boards have recently been unearthed and are now in the process of being restored (digitally) to their former glory. These hand lettered on mahogany displays would have taken pride of place in our former club house.
Watch this space for further updates.

Congratulations to Graeme McEwing, our scratch winner in The Spring Meeting.
There was a tie for the Handicap prize, with Scott McEwing winning on a better inward nine.

25.09.23
Mercantile v StationMasters
A damp, grey day on The Burnside was brightened up significantly with a 3.5 - 2.5 victory for the Merchy men recently. Overturning a 6 - 0 drubbing last year and playing with a man down, it was a remarkable performance.
Pitlochry v Mercantile
Unfortunately the much anticipated return match at Pitlochry at the weekend had to be postponed due to a bad weather forecast.
Doug will keep us posted re. A new date.

MIKE BERGER
It’s with much sadness we report the loss of Mercantile stalwart Mike Berger, who passed away recently after a long period of illness.
Mike was a loyal and honourable servant to the Club since joining in the early 80’s.
He was ever the complete gentleman as an opponent and whether winning or losing, was always appreciative of a good shot, and never short of conversation.
A frequent winner of our Winter League, where his banter will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts go out to Sue and the family.

Our thoughts go out to Fiona and the family.
